LICORICE PIZZA by Paul Thomas Anderson (o.v. with italian subtitles)

With Alana Haim, Cooper Hoffman, Sean Penn, Tom Waits, Bradley Cooper (USA, 2021)

This is a love story set in 1973, far too interesting and complicated to be called “coming-of-age”. A grinningly fast-talking 15-year-old boy meets a bored 25-year-old woman who works as assistant to a photographer taking pictures for the high-school yearbook. She is in equal parts amused, intrigued and depressed when this kid starts hitting on her, and she realises that she is somehow interested in him.

È STATA LA MANO DI DIO by Paolo Sorrentino (with english sub)

With Toni Servillo, Filippo Scotti, Teresa Saponangelo, Marlon Joubert, Luisa Ranieri (Italy, 2021)

Fabio is one of the children of Saverio and Maria, a couple of the good Neapolitan bourgeoisie, surrounded by neighbors, relatives and friends who share happiness and problems. Fabio is a teenager intimidated by women and in love with his aunt Patrizia. A domestic kaleidoscope made up of maternal and paternal jokes, a brother who dreams on cinema and a sister who lives in the bathroom revolves around him, but this protective and exhilarating universe is destined to disappear suddenly, creating a void that, perhaps, can also be the source of a new creative freedom.

Friday 5th August - 9:00 pm

DEATH ON THE NILE by Kenneth Branagh (o.v. with italian subtitles)

With Kenneth Branagh, Armie Hammer, Tom Bateman, Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal (USA, 2022)

Investigator Hercule Poirot is invited by his friend Bouc to join the cruise along the Nile organized by a couple of young newlyweds, the heiress Linnet Ridgeway and her husband Simon Doyle who met in London a short time before and got together after blowing off Linnet’s best friend Jacqueline de Bellefort. The idyllic atmosphere is soon shattered by violent deaths and a frantic search for the killer.

Friday 2 September - 9:00 pm

(o.v. with italian subtitles) With Andra Day, Garrett Hedlund, Natasha Lyonne, Tyler James Williams, Tone Bell (USA, 2021)

Between the end of the thirties and the beginning of the forties, Billie Holiday brought to succes the song Strange Fruit by Abel Meeropol, a denunciation of the ongoing lynchings against African Americans in the South of the United States. That song earned her the attention of the Government and the FBI. In 1947, at the height of her popularity, the woman was arrested and had to serve a year in prison (the "excuse" was drug possession). For the official Anslinger, first commissioner of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, the black singer was: "the symbol of all that America must be afraid of".
